Will he bring along his hurdy-gurdy? In what sounds like a match made in adult contemporary heaven, Sting and Annie Lennox will be crossing the pond later this year for an extensive North American amphitheater tour, dubbed the Sacred Love tour after Sting's most recent release. Last seen on the same stage a week ago at the Oscars -- where Lennox's hobbit hymn ''Into the West'' beat Sting's ''Cold Mountain'' contribution ''You Will Be My Ain True Love'' for Best Song -- the pair will play 42 dates, starting June 27 in Philadelphia and wrapping up Oct. 12 in Calgary. Tickets go on sale at the end of this week via Ticketmaster, though Sting fan club members can purchase them already via his website.

Yet to be determined are such details as the opening act and whether, after her set, Lennox will join Sting on stage for any duets. ''For me, it's creating one show out of what would normally be two shows,'' Sting told the Associated Press. ''It's our stage, and I want people to go away thinking, 'That was the best show that I ever saw.''' For her part, Lennox cites their friendship, going back 20 years to the days when she fronted the Eurythmics and he led the Police, as key to the tour's success. '' I actually think that camaraderie and friendship is actually essential,'' she said, ''and it has to run from the bottom to the top.''

Apparently, it's a friendship that has survived even their Oscar competition. Of her victory last week, as part of the ''Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King'' sweep, she said, ''It was like popping champagne bottles every five seconds.'' Said Sting: ''I was having the opposite reaction.''
