Madonna will produce '80s miniseries for NBC. From the network that brought you ''The '60s'' and ''The '70s'' comes another generational saga with a killer soundtrack

The decade that won't go away is coming back to TV, this time as fiction. From NBC, the network that brought you the miniseries ''The '60s'' and ''The '70s'' comes a new saga about the 1980s, to be produced by Madonna. Really, who else could do the decade justice?

Madonna and her Maverick Films producing partner, Guy Oseary, will oversee the miniseries, which will be, like the previous NBC generational sagas, a tale of several twentysomethings bopping through a decade of history to a killer soundtrack. (According to Variety, the TV movie will open with the 1980 assassination of John Lennon and end with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.) The key, of course, will be the pop songs chosen to accompany such ''where were you when…'' moments; NBC hopes to duplicate the sales success of the soundtrack CDs to ''The '60s'' and ''The '70s.'' Here, Oseary's expertise will be helpful; he compiled the '80s-themed soundtracks to Adam Sandler's ''The Wedding Singer'' and ''50 First Dates.'' ''The '80s are a big part of my life and have served as an inspiration for so much of my work,'' he told Variety.

In other '80s nostalgia news, ABC announced Tuesday that it's following up recent ''Behind the Scenes'' movies about the making of ''Three's Company'' and ''Charlie's Angels'' with one about the catfights behind ''Dynasty.'' ''Star Trek'' Borg Queen Alice Krige will play Joan Collins. Resistance is futile.
