It's Aretha Franklin's 62nd birthday on Thursday -- and the soul legend won't have to spend it in a hospital. Franklin was released Wednesday from Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit after treatment for what Reuters suggested was a low blood platelet count brought on by either an allergic reaction or a virus . ''Hallelujah and glory to God,'' Franklin said in a statement released by her publicist.
Franklin thanked Chaka Khan and record industry exec Clive Davis for sending flowers, while explaining that she planned to spend her birthday ''taking it easy at home.'' ''I have special dishes that will be cooked and prepared for me,'' she said in her statement. Franklin's physician, Dr. Claud Young, told Reuters the star was recovering nicely. ''She responded very well to her treatment and she's doing just fine,'' he said. So bring on the special dishes.
