Producer David E. Kelley will beam up William Shatner to join the cast of his James Spader spinoff of ''The Practice,'' according to the Hollywood Reporter. Shatner appeared last week on ''The Practice'' (which ends this May) as Danny Crane, a senior partner in a new, bigger law firm that Alan Shore (Spader) will eventually join. In the current storyline, Shore has hired Crane's firm for a wrongful termination suit against ''The Practice'''s main law firm, Young, Frutt & Berluti.

Also likely to star in the as-yet-untitled spin-off are Fay Masterson and Lake Bell, who will appear in the last episodes of ''The Practice'' as a fiercely competent lawyer and a green law school grad, respectively. Sadly, there aren't roles for Leonard Nimoy and James Doohan -- at least not yet.
