Deviating from his previous efforts to spoof racial stereotypes, rap, and horror flicks, actor-director Cundieff (Tales From the Hood) turns to pat romantic comedy. As Montel, an aspiring young movie director, Cundieff schemes and bumbles his way into the pants and heart of Campbell?s Brandy, an aspiring young lawyer. From the saccharine getting-to-know-you montage to the pedestrian pretentiousness of the black-and-white love scene and way down to the raunchy, unsexy sex jokes, Sprung never betrays the dimmest shimmer of creativity. The title, we?re told, means ?way past whipped?; that?s how I felt watching it.
