DOUBLES ANYONE? Agassi shares a quiet moment with partner Brooke

Writer: Paul Bauman; Genre: Biography

Despite its provocative title, this drab unauthorized biography serves up painfully few revelations about the flashiest tennis star of our day. It does describe (at great length) how Andre’s Armenian father, Mike, relentlessly pushed his kids on the tennis court. “He makes Don Rickles look like Mother Teresa,” Bauman writes with a straight face. Still, Agassi’s life, which now includes a Las Vegas mansion and a 727, never sounds all that “turbulent.” And the only good gossip about his marriage to Brooke Shields is the fact that they were set up by Kenny G’s wife. Flatly written and surprisingly dull, Agassi and Ecstasy lacks precisely the quality its subject has in spades: flair.
