Any random episode of Law & Order would be more sophisticated than this heavy-handed, moralistic Southern-lawyer corn pone, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Grisham’s easy target: An idealistic law-school grad (Matt Damon) goes after an evil, almighty-dollar-worshiping insurance company (represented by Jon Voight as a fancy-pants attorney) that baldly refuses to take care of its policyholders. And guess what: He wins! The brand-name supporting cast includes Danny DeVito, Claire Danes, and Mickey Rourke.
