The studio must have lost confidence in this twisty film noir, giving it only a token theatrical release, but don’t let that scare you off. A straggly-haired jewel thief (Caruso) picks up a pistol-packing hitchhiker (Clueless’ Dash) while tracking an ex- accomplice (Lynch) who set him up for a fall. Caruso’s hair-trigger temperament seems even more explosive on the small screen, and Law & Order’s Chris Noth (as a barfly lured into Lynch’s web) and Heavy’s Pruitt Taylor Vince (as a four-eyed fence named Johnny Cokebottles) contribute lively character work. Lynch and Dash deliver flat line readings as the femmes fatales, but these are the only flaws in this nasty little gem.
