With her single “Torn” riding high on the U.K. charts, this 23-year-old London-based looker arrives in America with a set of forgettable, radio-friendly tunes that travels a familiar sonic landscape: from Rickie Lee-ville to Alanis-land. A few years ago Middle’s dozen glossy songs might have seemed (somewhat) original, but even their bouncy beats and gorgeous guitars can’t disguise the absence of fresh or honestly affecting material.
