As director Peter Weir indicates in the liner notes, this is not simply the music that he chose for The Truman Show, but also the music that Über-producer Christof (Ed Harris) would have chosen for “The Truman Show.” As Truman’s life is cobbled into an endless series of televised Hallmark moments, so the score strings together propulsive Philip Glass cues from earlier films, lovely new Glass music, a Wojciech Kilar cut, a random Chopin larghetto, and Burkhard Dallwitz’s deceptively “traditional” original score. The result, as kaleidoscopic as the film, works as both deeply affecting movie music and a head-spinningly sneaky parody of same.
