HOOTIE: YOU LOVE? Then their new "Musical" is for you
Credits
Lead Performance: Hootie & the Blowfish
B
That smoothly gruff voice, those jingle-jangle chords, the skin-deep sentiments...it must be Hootie! On their third album, the Columbia, S.C., quartet add just a dash of spice to their predictable musical recipe: The juiced guitar buzz of "Wishing" and "Bluesy Revolution" gives those tracks a post-grunge kick, and the tangy, acoustic "Michelle Post" and "Desert Mountain Showdown" are fine examples of No Depression lite. Still, the Blowfish continue to hug that center stripe in the road. If you don't dig 'em, don't bother.
