Take that, Hilary Duff! Lindsay Lohan has landed the emcee gig of the season, hosting next month's MTV Movie Awards. The 17-year-old ''Mean Girls'' star will be introducing presenters and handing out golden popcorn tubs by herself, a change from recent years that have made the hosting gig a two-person job (last year, it was Justin Timberlake and Seann William Scott, while Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar hosted in 2002). Lohan may even take home one of the tubs herself; she's up for the Breakthrough Female award for her starring role in last summer's ''Freaky Friday.''
''Lindsay is smart, funny, she has an amazing connection to the MTV audience, and she's a huge star,'' MTV president Van Toffler said Thursday in a statement. ''That makes her the perfect choice to host this year's show.'' Also getting airtime on the show will be musical guests D12, the Beastie Boys, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
''Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'' leads the nominees with six citations, followed by ''50 First Dates'' and ''X2: X-Men United,'' with four apiece. The show will tape June 5 in Hollywood on a soundstage on the Sony studio lot, and MTV will air it on June 10.
