Amazingly, Kevin Costner has never appeared in a sequel. He's about to bend that rule, however, by appearing in a movie inspired by ''The Graduate,'' in which he'll play a love interest for Jennifer Aniston. According to Variety, he's in talks to star opposite the ''Friends'' alumna in writer/director Ted Griffin's untitled comedy about a woman who discovers to her horror that her own family may have been the inspiration for the classic 1967 Dustin Hoffman-Anne Bancroft movie. (Also on board is Shirley MacLaine as Aniston's grandma, the model for Bancroft's Mrs. Robinson).

The news sends Aniston's character reeling into her own ill-advised romance with an older partner, to be played by Costner. The role would mark a rare return to romantic comedy for Costner, who hasn't done one since 1996's ''Tin Cup.'' Actually, he has another one in the can, ''The Upside of Anger,'' starring Joan Allen as a homemaker wooed by an ex-baseball player. Now, there's some familiar turf for the ''Bull Durham'' star.
