Release Date: May 18, 2004; Lead Performance: Charlie Mars

Some people love the sound of their local bar act making good, and Mississippi modern rocker Charlie Mars produces just that sound: dense, accessible, rootsy pop. A cynic would call him a less-talented Ryan Adams or a one-man Goo Goo Dolls, but the Wallflowers scored a few years ago with a similar AAA approach. If Mars had a ''One Headlight''-caliber single on his CD, he might be the second coming of Jakob Dylan.
