EW's favorite Rodney Dangerfield moments
He's lewd. He's crude. He starred in Ladybugs, but we still love him. With apologies to the comedic, hip-hop stylings of ''Rappin' Rodney,'' here are the four essential Dangerfield delights.
Caddyshack (1980)
The movie that propelled Rodney from stand-up to star. In a film full of comedic heavyweights (Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Ted Knight), Dangerfield steals the show as snob buster Al Czervick. ''Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this, I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh...? Oh, it looks good on you, though.'' A
No Respect CD (1980)
Respect is due. This 40-minute assault of classic one-liners won the Grammy for Best Comedy Recording. Dangerfield disses his wife, his kid, and -- of course -- himself. The back cover picture of Rodney getting peed on by a dog says it all. BEST LINE ''At my age I want two girls at once. If I fall asleep they got each other to talk to.'' A-
Back to School (1986)
Dangerfield shows off his Triple Lindy as a millionaire businessman who enrolls in college to be with his son in this goofy campus comedy. Rodney's scream-off with Sam Kinison alone is worth it. BEST LINE ''Bring a pitcher of beer every seven minutes until somebody passes out. And then bring one every 10 minutes.'' A-
Natural Born Killers (1994)
An inspired piece of casting led to Rodney playing Juliette Lewis' foulmouthed, sexually abusive father in Oliver Stone's brutal and bizarre love story. A shocking and equally powerful turn for the lovable loser. BEST LINE ''All right, f -- -face, now I'm going to take your eye out and show it to you.'' (That's honestly the least disturbing one we could find.) B+
