Although Andrew Kuehn's documentary is just one step above a home movie in content, depth, and technical quality, it coasts a long way on goodwill and good shtick from such FOBs as Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, and Bette Midler. (Brief shots of the writer consulting with Steven Seagal do not, alas, segue into a cascade of appreciative gags from the ponytailed actor.) As is so often the case, it's Mom -- Hennie Vilanch -- who steals the show as she reflects on her adored son's unusual talents.
