There Is Nothing Left to Lose

'LEFT' PALETTE Foo Fighters shoot straight on their latest

Music Review

There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Lead Performance: Foo Fighters; Genre: Rock

Foo Fighters, ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl's combo, deal in streamlined alt-power-pop, and their third album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose, is their most accomplished yet. Medium-heavy tunes like ''Learn to Fly'' and ''Breakout'' are sleekly crafted and lyrically resonant, while the sly ''Stacked Actors'' and the Badfinger-esque ''Ain't It the Life'' reveal a sensitive streak that meshes nicely with Grohl's more aggressive inclinations.
