Monster (2004)

Details Release Date: Jun 01, 2004; DVD Release Date: Jun 01, 2004; Movie Rated: R; Genre: Drama; With: Charlize Theron; Distributor: Newmarket Capital Group; More

The main reason to see Monster -- director Patty Jenkins' mediocre movie about Aileen Wuornos, one of America's first female serial killers -- is to witness the marvel that is Charlize Theron. It doesn't just have to do with her physical transformation, which included gaining 30 pounds and literally putting on new skin. It's about her fierce, Oscar-winning portrayal of a homeless prostitute who turns her desperation -- from being abandoned by her family, rejected by society, and brutally raped -- into the blind rage that fueled her killing spree.

EXTRAS An unsatisfying featurette includes a cursory glance at Theron's mind-boggling make-over.
