The General's Daughter, John Travolta
Video Review

The General's Daughter

EW's GRADE
D-

Details Movie Rated: R; Genres: Drama, Mystery and Thriller; With: John Travolta

It's not just the stylishly filmed rape scene or the lingering shots of a naked dead woman that make this film so offensive. It's the creepy vibe Travolta and Stowe ooze, as two Army officers investigating the murder of a young female captain. Their relentless banter, sticky with innuendo, seems out of place, considering they're trying to solve a brutal sex crime. Finally, the plot is a nonsensical mess -- which just caps off the ugliness.

Reel Goodies That flirt! Stowe taunts an attractive sex offender: ''It's a good smile, but you could never lead a rape.'' The Last Detail Director Simon West, who made ''Con Air'' before this, got his start shooting such TV commercials as the first Budweiser frog ads.
