Like ''Field of Dreams'' before it, Frequency, a pleasantly mawkish fantasy about a Queens cop (Caviezel) reunited with his long dead fireman dad (Quaid) via sunspot enhanced ham radio, will surely become a rental staple for grown men who want an excuse to cry. Only later will they realize they've been treated to the rather odd spectacle of a father and son bonding over a grisly serial murder case -- not to mention the most elliptical timeline twisting since ''Back to the Future II.'' That's forgivable. The Garth Brooks musical finale is not.
