MUSTWORTHINESS More than 3.5 million fans tune in each week to
''American Chopper'' on the Discovery Channel to watch the father-son
duo build, bike, and bicker...and bicker. The AOL spokesmen are
so popular that die-hard fans -- and even not-so-die-hard
fans -- stalk their Rock Tavern, N.Y., shop to see Jr. and Sr., the
man behind the highly hyped, lazy-boy-kicking size 12s.
CHOP-SHOP
CONFESSION ''We're starting to get sick of the theme bikes,''
admits Paul Jr., who as Orange County Choppers' chief designer
has created more than 15 themed choppers, including the famed
Fire, Spider-Man, and Statue of Liberty bikes.
SAY IT AIN'T SO!
It ain't. When Twentieth Century Fox came knocking, Paulie found
that he still had a little theme-bike love left in him. ''We're
building a bike for 'I, Robot' [starring Will Smith]. But it's a
compromise: I decided that we're just going to build a
freaky-looking, space-age bike and not try to get caught up too
much in making it look like a robot.''
SHIFTING GEARS, WHAT'S WITH
THE FAMILY FEUDS Survey says! Paul Jr.: ''I blame the bikes. They
always give us a reason to argue.'' Paul Sr.: ''That and because
you're kinda lazy.''
NEXT ''Chopper'''s second season, airing Mondays
at 10 p.m.
