Only one show could, or would, introduce the boy band Fingerbang, let Cartman join NAMBLA, and parody a certain presidential election with a stalemate kindergarten vote. But while you're applauding South Park's bravado (Janet Reno in a bunny costume!), don't forget its heart: Handicapped Timmy champions a physically challenged turkey in ''Helen Keller! The Musical,'' and Mr. Hankey's ''nugget'' son Cornwallis discovers poo's essential place in the world in ''A Very Crappy Christmas.''

EXTRAS Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone offer mini-musings on the 17 episodes -- touching upon battles with Comedy Central (Timmy and new teacher Ms. Choksondik were especially hard sells) and Parker's admittedly ''superjuvenile'' need to mock Phil Collins (who'd just beat him out for the Best Song Oscar). So-called ''commentary lunchables'' may satisfy casual fans, but diehards craving the full method behind all this madness will be left hungry.
