Providing more evidence that Anthony's supple voice uplifts even the most saccharine material, ''Mentiras'', the Nuyorican crooner's first Spanish-language pop album, effectively squashes any urge to hear him belt like a gringo ever again. From the dark orchestral swells of ''Ahora Quien'' to the organic bolero shuffle of ''Tu Amor Me Hace Bien,'' Anthony's unbridled conviction imbues the songs with a winsome flair for the melodramatic. Points subtracted, though, for the drippy J. Lo duet ''Escapemonos.''
