Jupiter's Darling (2004)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Jun 22, 2004; Lead Performance: Heart

On their first studio album in more than a decade, sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson deliver their hit formula: finger-picking or chord-crunching guitars, sweet or shrill vocals; and power ballads. But they also give us neatly crafted, finely detailed departures, some with unexpected instrumentation. The blue-eyed soul of ''I Need the Rain'' is dotted with mandolin and dulcimer, the blues of ''No Other Love'' supported by strings. With the volume turned down, their vocals shine, especially on the lullabylike ''Hello Moonglow.''
