Brandy's getting married -- this time for real -- and she has the rock to prove it. Days after her ex, producer Robert Smith, revealed that the pair had never actually wed, People.com reports that the singer-actress has gotten engaged to her beau of nine months, L.A. Clippers guard Quentin Richardson. The hoopster popped the question on Tuesday at a private reception at Los Angeles' Century Club, with both parties' families and friends in attendance. There, he presented her with a custom-designed ring, in the works for months but finished only a half-hour earlier, with a basketball-sized diamond (well, 11 1/2 carats) valued at $1 million. No word yet on a date or venue for the nuptials.
The wedding will be the first for the 25-year-old Brandy (full name: Brandy Norwood). Two years ago, shortly before the birth of daughter Sy'rai, Brandy announced that she had secretly married the child's father, Smith, several months before. The couple split up in 2003. Last week, however, Smith announced that they had never actually tied the knot, and that they had feigned marriage in order to protect the ''Moesha'' star's wholesome image. She did not deny Smith's claim but said in a statement that they had shared a ''spiritual union and a true commitment to each other.'' Presumably, the ''Afrodisiac'' singer and Richardson will share a more traditional and legally binding kind of ''true commitment.'' Talking about the 24-year-old athlete, Brandy's mother, Sonja Norwood, told People: ''He is a great guy for her. I can see the happiness in her.''
