Why we can't wait to see ''Alexander''
RELEASE DATE Nov. 24
WHY WE CAN'T WAIT Who can resist the combustible combination of Colin Farrell (center, looking hot as a blonde, with Angelina Jolie and Val Kilmer) and director Oliver Stone (working on a broad, JFK-sized canvas again)? Plus, we're intrigued by the seemingly Oedipal casting of the too-young Jolie and Kilmer as Alexander's parents.
THE PREMISE Macedonian king Alexander (356-323 B.C.) conquers most of the known world before he's 30. Showoff.
SOURCE The historical record of the king's conquests
THE BACK STORY It took Alexander eight years to conquer the world, but it took Stone more than 10 years to get this $150 million film in the can. General Stone mobilized his troops for a globetrotting five-month shoot that traveled to Morocco, Thailand, India, London, and Paris. ''This is a mass collaboration,'' says Stone, who insists that there's no contemporary political allegorical content to the story. ''It's like building a ship or a cathedral.''
BURNING QUESTION Will Colin and Co. keep the sword and sandals genre alive? And will they kill off Baz Lurhmann's long-gestating Alexander biopic with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role?
COME FOR Alexander's steamy relationship with pal Hephaistion (Jared Leto)
STAY FOR Alexander's even steamier relationship with first wife Roxanne (Rosario Dawson)
