Author Truman Capote was as well known for having lots of famous friends as he was for his prose. Director Doug McGrath has some famous friends too, and he's called upon a few of them to fill out the cast in his Capote biopic, ''Every Word Is True.'' Most recently, Variety reports, he's cast Gwyneth Paltrow, to whom he gave an early career break (his 1996 adaptation of ''Emma'' was her first starring role), and Sigourney Weaver, who played the wife of McGrath's character in the 2000 spy spoof ''Company Man.'' They join a cast that also includes Sandra Bullock and Mark Wahlberg. Playing Capote (1924-84) will be British actor Toby Jones, best known as the voice of Dobby the House Elf in ''Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.''

McGrath's screenplay, adapted from George Plimpton's 1997 biography of the author, centers on Capote's relationship with convicted killers Dick Hickock and Perry Smith, the subjects of the author's landmark ''In Cold Blood,'' as they awaited execution. Wahlberg will play Smith. As for Capote's less notorious friends, Paltrow will play singer Peggy Lee, Weaver will play a Manhattan socialite, and Bullock will play ''To Kill a Mockingbird'' author Harper Lee, a friend to Capote since his childhood. McGrath will shoot the independently financed $10 million film in January.
