The Bachelor: ByronABC hasn’t done too well at generating lasting romances from ''The Bachelor'' -- in fact, the show is 0 for 5. Maybe that's why the network is giving the women a little more say in the upcoming edition of ''Bachelor,'' which premieres with a two-hour episode on Sept. 22. For one thing, they'll have two bachelors to choose from, though they'll give one the boot that first night. That's one of several twists in the formula this season.
The two swains are Jay Overbye, a realtor and former model from New York City, and Byron Velvick, a divorcé and professional bass fisherman. Both men are 40, and the 25 bachelorettes skew a bit older as well, ranging from 26 to 39. In another twist, two bachelorette ''all-stars'' from previous seasons will show up unannounced later in the season. Also, Jay or Byron (whoever makes it past the first night) will be living in the same mansion with the women.
One more twist, this one worthy of the ''Big Brother'' episode where the captive contestants were treated to a live performance by Sheryl Crow. The second ''Bachelor'' episode will feature a performance by Brandy. Hey, she's still single, isn't she? Hmmm...
