A year after the death of John Ritter, ''8'' takes baby steps into breezier plotlines in season 3. For one, Cate (Katey Sagal) will debate dating. ''There are gonna be a couple of men floating around who are interested,'' promises executive producer Judd Pillot. Meanwhile, Cate's dad, Jim (James Garner), embraces the swinging single septuagenarian life after failing to re-woo his wife (Suzanne Pleshette). And with all three kids in high school, there'll be plenty of awkwardness. Frosh Rory (Martin Spanjers) is stressed about his first locker-room shower given his lack of, um, lower-body hair, and cousin C.J. (David Spade) offers support. ''C.J. reminds him that he has the Hennessy curse, where the grass on the infield doesn't come in right away,'' explains executive producer John Peaslee. Now that's breezy!
