Rockers Sugar Ray used to joke that they had used up all but one second of their Warhol-allotted 15 minutes of fame. Frontman Mark McGrath is certainly making that final second last. In addition to his duties with the band, McGrath will become the full-time co-host of syndicated entertainment news show ''Extra.'' When the show's 11th season begins on Sept. 13, he'll join longtime host Dayna Devon as an anchor.
''This is a dream job. Through the band, I did some hosting and loved it,'' McGrath told the Associated Press, referring to his emcee role at such events as the 2002 World Music Awards on ABC and the 2002 Victoria's Secret Fall Fashion Show on CBS. ''I feel in my element. I'm diving in headfirst and hopefully people will respond.''
''I didn't want a cookie-cutter host,'' said senior executive producer Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey, who added that she likes the idea of a celebrity covering other celebrities. ''There's no host like Mark on TV today, and who better to bring our viewers closer to the stars than Mark? Talk about the ultimate 'insider.''' We eagerly await his hard-hitting scoops and investigative exposés.
