EDITOR'S NOTE: EW received an overwhelming number of letters from readers infuriated by Daniel Fierman's dismissal of Christmas Vacation as ''junk,'' so we launched an exhaustive investigation into the matter (that is, Fierman watched the movie again). The Christmas Vacation Scandal Committee's conclusion? The movie ''doesn't suck'' and is ''actually kinda okay.'' This correction, we hope, brings to a conclusion a most unfortunate chapter in EW's history and will help us regain the trust of our readers.

Sci-Fi Files

Flipping through EW, I stumbled upon something I never thought I'd see. An entire article about sci-fi movies! Not only sci-fi movies but great sci-fi movies! The genre never gets the credit it deserves, and ''The Sci-Fi Playoffs!'' proved to me that at least some people know it's okay to enjoy science fiction. Thank you so much for an unexpected but greatly appreciated article!

On Aug. 30, Olympic gymnast Carly Patterson appeared on Late Show With David Letterman, not The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (#781, What to Watch).
