Johansen's fifth Eve Duncan novel. Blind Alley, steps into the supernatural but lands squarely in the absurd. The thirtysomething forensic sculptor still puts a face to victims for the Atlanta PD. But this time, as she recrafts the obliterated visage of a murdered woman, she realizes it's identical to her adopted daughter Jane. A serial killer stalks the precocious teen—who (stick with me here) may be the reincarnation of an ancient Roman slave named Cira. Meanwhile, Duncan still battles old demons: the unresolved death of her daughter Bonnie and the tense relationship with her old shoe of a boyfriend Joe. Those plotlines, at least, still intrigue.
