Pam Anderson creates animal-friendly shoes -- The former ''Baywatch'' star aims to design a cruelty-free fashion line

A predominantly male crowd of gawkers with digital cameras is gathered outside Pamela Anderson's pastel-colored booth at the MAGIC fashion trade show (which took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center Aug. 30 -- Sept. 2), hoping for a glimpse of the actress. Clad in a white strapless top and capris, Anderson is promoting Star, the cruelty-free shoe line that is the latest addition to her Playboy-sponsored fashion empire, which includes lingerie, sportswear, and -- God help us -- an upcoming juniors' line.

''I wanted to have something that was sort of sexy and beachy but still functional,'' says the actress, leaning back on a white chaise while fans' flashbulbs pop behind her. ''Functional,'' however, is open to interpretation: ''Pamela wanted everything to be on four-and-a-half-inch heels,'' laughs Natalie Gray, who codesigned the line. ''I don't like anything remotely with Pamela I wanted [to evoke] the glamorous Hollywood life.''

And that definitely requires stilettos. ''The higher the heel, the better for me,'' says Anderson. ''Because I fall off flat shoes.'' No doubt, any of the guys hanging outside her booth would be more than happy to catch her.
