Maybe it's apt that a remake of Revenge of the Nerds is being coproduced by Seth Cohen himself. According to Variety, the O.C. star and his pal, Grounded for Life costar Brett Harrison came up with the idea of a remake of the 1984 geeks-vs.-jocks comedy and pitched it to O.C. executive producer McG, who sold the idea to Fox Searchlight. ''I could definitely relate to every aspect of those films and was absolutely on the nerd side,'' said McG, who also told Variety that he'd been given many a wedgie when he was a youth. (Hey, we know a few people who'd like to give the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle director a wedgie right now.)
It's not clear whether McG will direct; so far, he's on board as a producer, along with Brody and Harrison. Writing the update will be Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, who know a few things about hormonal teenage boys, having made that the topic of their new ABC series, Life as We Know It. It's also not clear whether Brody and Harrison will act in the film (they may if their TV schedules permit), but McG says to expect cameos by some of the stars of the original film. After all, Robert Carradine and Anthony Edwards (formerly of ER) probably aren't too busy right now.
