Can the hit animated film Shark Tale make it two weeks at the top of the box office charts? Not if Billy Bob Thornton has anything to say about it.
Thornton's football drama Friday Night Lights has received strong early reviews, but Shark Tale might have the edge with its family-friendly content. After premiering last weekend with $47.6 million, it should slip 45 percent to $26 million, good enough for another week at No. 1.
Friday, meanwhile, should open strongly since it coincides with high-school football seasons across the country. Four years ago, Denzel Washington's Remember the Titans opened to $20.9 million; expect Friday to light up with $22 million.
John Travolta's well-received Ladder 49 will battle for third place with the new Jimmy Fallon-Queen Latifah comedy Taxi, both of which could earn $11 million. And preteen fave Hilary Duff will try her hand at a more dramatic role with the Fame-esque Raise Your Voice. Will her young fans follow her into more serious territory? Perhaps $9 million worth will.
