It was the Rolling Stones, not the Beatles, who once put on a rock & roll circus, but the Fabs are finally catching up. The troupe of acrobatic performers known as Cirque du Soleil is planning a Beatles-themed theatrical production at Las Vegas' Mirage hotel, which will replace Siegfried & Roy's now-defunct act, according to a press release from the Beatles and Cirque du Soleil. Surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will help plan the production, but will not appear in it.
The show, which will kick off in about 20 months, will mark the first time the Beatles have participated in a major theatrical work based on their music. Beatles producer George Martin will guide the musical portion of the still-untitled production, according to the press release. The show will take place in a still-under-construction theater in the Mirage that will hold around 2,000 people.
