Now, after two years of workshops, out-of-town previews, and a lifetime of hard luck for a playwright who sang of fairy tales but rarely saw them come true, Brooklyn is on Broadway. ''I've had so many people who've helped me,'' says Schoenfeld, his eyes misting up. ''I'm blessed that my life has been saved in so many ways. It's like a dream.'' As he finishes saying this, McPherson reaches over, grabs his hand, and squeezes it tightly.
