Whatever Kerry and Bush have up their tailored sleeves, it looks like Eminem had an October surprise of his own planned. After releasing the much-criticized trifle ''Just Lose It'' as the first single from his Nov. 16 album Encore, Marshall Mathers has turned around and dropped a much more relevant song: ''Mosh,'' a fiery broadside at the Bush Administration. Its accompanying animated video is at least as inflammatory as its ''f--- Bush'' lyrics, with scenes of kids massing for an apparent revolution, and a shot of Eminem-as-Bush reading ''The Pet Goat'' to kids on 9/11.
A seemingly endless parade of artists have challenged Bush in recent months, but for young voters who couldn't care less about, say, Bruce Springsteen, Eminem might as well be the first. And unlike other artists, Eminem chose to launch his attack through a single that may well get extensive MTV or radio airplay. (Click here to see the video in Windows Media or RealPlayer).
Do you buy Eminem as a political artist? Should radio and MTV play the song? Will it affect young fans' votes? And, most importantly, do you like it?
