Release Date: Oct 26, 2004; Lead Performance: Luna

Since 1992, Luna have turned out nuanced, luminous alt-rock with such regularity that it's hard to fathom the implications of their recent breakup announcement. Still, their seventh studio album finds the foursome sounding as warmly hypnotic as ever, with leader Dean Wareham's dry-witted, impressionistic lyrics matched by his and Sean Eden's caressing, colliding guitars. The bittersweet undercurrent in tunes like ''Speedbumps'' and ''Astronaut'' is particularly poignant in light of Rendezvous' swan-song status.
