Battling for Oscar nominations this year will be Shrek and sharks, dogs and superheroes, the bottom of the sea and the top of the world. On Thursday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 11 movies were eligible for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. Along with Shrek 2, the year's top-grossing movie, the hit Shark Tale, and likely blockbusters The Incredibles (opening Friday), Polar Express, and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, the eligible films are Clifford’s Really Big Movie, Disney’s Teacher’s Pet, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Home on the Range, The Legend of Buddha, and Sky Blue. (Hey, why no Team America: World Police? Doesn't puppetry count as stop-motion animation?) The films are competing for three nomination slots in the category. Nominations will be announced Jan. 25, with the awards ceremony taking place on Feb. 27. That gives Papa Incredible almost four months to slim down enough to fit into his tuxedo.
