Keanu, Spike Lee team up for crime drama -- Reeves will play a cop in an adaptation of James Ellroy's book ''The Night Watchman''

He plays a supernatural detective in Constantine (2005), but for a new project, Keanu Reeves has been cast as a more earthbound investigator. Reeves will play a cop who finds corruption within his department in The Night Watchman, based on James Ellroy's novel, according to trade paper reports.

The film will be directed by Spike Lee, who has previously shown his facility for crime dramas with Clockers and 25th Hour. Ellroy will adapt his own book. Other upcoming roles for Reeves: He'll play an orthodontist in the comic drama Thumbsucker, and will star in Richard Linklater's science-fiction adaptation A Scanner Darkly.
