Best reality TV on DVD: ''Survivor: Borneo'' and ''The Real World NY''

Unrated, 11 hrs., 4 mins., 2000 (Paramount)
We're drowning in reality TV now, but the show that started it all remains as satisfying as mixing a little stingray in your rice. Besides the big four — Rich, Kelly, Rudy, and Sue — folks like loopy Greg (''When cooking rats, I would imagine the sauce is of the utmost importance'') and whip-smart Gretchen (the first and most shocking casualty of the alliance) were season 1's standouts, and there was genuine joy in the summer-camp quality of the challenges (with rewards as simple as a slice of pizza). Plus, who knew? Before host Probst turned into a robot, he was a cool guy. EXTRAS Probst, Rudy, Rich, and Gervase provide self-deprecating commentary on Jenna's yapping, Sean's stupidity, and other tribal treasures. —Whitney Pastorek
