Susan Sarandon, who won an Oscar for 1995's "Dead Man Walking," will soon appear on screen with a live man Walken -- Christopher Walken, that is. The pair teams with John Turturro, Beverly D'Angelo and Rufus Sewell in "Illuminata," a romance set among the 19th-century New York theater set. The film, which just screened at the Cannes film festival, won critical raves for its high-powered ensemble cast and is the second film that Turturro has directed. (His first was "Mac.")

The New York City-born Turturro told EW Online why he decided to direct and star in "Illuminata": "Frankly, I'm tired of movies about gangsters and criminals. Instead, I wanted to show what it's like to have a relationship with someone -- to show how hard it is to love and work together over the long haul." To help lend authenticity to the project, Turturro, 41, cast his real-life wife, actress Katherine Borowitz, in a leading role. "I'm not interested in seeing people fall in love," says Turturro. "What's interesting is what comes after -- the sacrifice, the selfishness, the forgiveness, the compassion."
