Woodstock is going back to the future. We previously reported that '60s headliners Joni Mitchell, Pete Townshend, Lou Reed, Richie Havens, and others will gather on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York (the original 1969 Woodstock Festival site), for concerts on August 14 and 15. Now '90s-rock fans also have a reason to visit the upstate locale famous for its communal mud baths, free love, and expensive soft drinks. Organizers have added a third day (Aug. 16) that will feature current chart-toppers Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls, and Marcy Playground, along with Joan Osborne and Dishwalla. Tickets are priced at $25 (compared to $69.98 for each of the other two days) and go on sale Saturday.
For the Goo Goo Dolls, whose song "Iris" from the "City of Angels" soundtrack is the nation's No. 1 modern rock single, the Bethel show will mark a welcome return to playing live. (The Goo Goos will first appear on Letterman July 28.) The band is currently holed up in a Los Angeles studio finishing its sixth album, "Dizzy Up the Girl," due out September 22. Joan Osborne is also busy putting the finishing touches on a follow-up to "Relish," her triple-platinum 1995 album that featured the single "One of Us" and earned the eclectic singer seven Grammy nominations.
