Robin Williams battles bugs, swingers, and bad actors at the box office this weekend. Here are the major movies opening tomorrow (with EW critics' grades).
- "What Dreams May Come" Robin Williams is once again in serious, anti-shtick mode, playing a hyper-serious doctor whose wife (Annabella Sciorra) commits suicide after he is killed in a car accident. The catch? He heads to dreamy heaven while she's sent down to hell, and he must venture downstairs to get her in an alternately weepy and hallucinogenic love story. (EW Grade: C+)
- "Antz" In this computer-animated bug tale, Woody Allen heads an all-star vocal cast (including Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, Sylvester Stallone, and Jennifer Lopez) as he plays a worker ant who breaks out of the pack to lead a battle against the insects' demagogic leader. This is DreamWorks' first foray into all-ages feature animation, and by deciding that nothing says "family fun" like Woody Allen, perhaps they know something we don't. (EW Grade: A)
- "A Night at the Roxbury" If you thought that the "Saturday Night Live" goofball characters (played by Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan) who hang out at clubs trying to get women to dance with them were funny for three-minute stretches... wait until you see them do it for over an hour! (EW Grade: N.A.)
- "The Impostors" Stanley Tucci's directorial follow-up to "Big Night" bids goodbye to that film's subtlety. In this antic period farce, he and Oliver Platt play underemployed actors trying to disguise themselves while stuck on a cruise ship with an acclaimed thespian who wants them arrested. Just about the entire indie actor world showed up to help out Tucci (the cast includes Lili Taylor, Steve Buscemi, Campbell Scott, and Hope Davis), because they had to do something while all the Hollywood actors were working on "Antz." (EW Grade: N.A.)
