Multi-platinum country rocker Travis Tritt says the songs on his new album "had only one basic criterion: They had to be loud." We'll attest that he reached his goal with several of his new tunes, including a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "Tougher Than the Rest." On the softer side is Bruce Hornsby's double-disc "Spirit Trail," the singer's first new material in three years. And Bob Dylan fans take note: That long-bootlegged 1966 "Royal Albert Hall" concert is now an official catalog item, meaning it sounds better but is less fun to own. Here are this week's notable new releases (with EW critics' grades).
- Travis Tritt, "No More Looking Over My Shoulder" (EW grade: B)
- Bruce Hornsby, "Spirit Trail" (EW grade: B-)
- Bob Dylan, "Live 1966: The 'Royal Albert Hall Concert' -- The Bootleg Series Vol. 4" (EW grade: A)
- Various Artists, "Footloose" Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" and other mid-eighties hits from the 15-year-old film soundtrack (EW Grade: kitsch value, A-; listening pleasure, C+)
- Flat Duo Jets, "Lucky Eye" (EW Grade: B)
- Golden Smog, "Weird Tales" The latest side project from members of Wilco (Jeff Tweedy), Soul Asylum (Dan Murphy), the Jayhawks (Gary Louris, Marc Perlman), and others (EW Grade: B)
