Fox cancels three more sitcoms, and CBS axes 'Brian Benben'

Barely a month into its new TV season, Fox is already into heavy damage control. The network announced that the new sitcoms "Holding the Baby" and "Living in Captivity" will be indefinitely shelved, while the sophomore comedy "Getting Personal" will be canceled. (A new hour-long supernatural detective drama, "Brimstone," will replace "Captivity" and "Personal," starting October 23 at 8 p.m.) Fox already had the dubious honor of being the first network to cut a show, by saying goodbye to "Costello" last week.

Fox may be the leader of the ax, but CBS has joined the killing spree by canceling Monday night's low-rated "Brian Benben Show." The newsroom comedy has been losing around 30% of the audience from its lead-in, "Everybody Loves Raymond." CBS will run bonus episodes of "Raymond" in its place until November 2, when it will premiere Ted Danson's new sitcom, "Becker."
