Lisa Loeb, whose wistful "Reality Bites" ballad "Stay" topped the music charts in 1994, has lately been singing the praises of a different profession: acting. She'll be looking for love on ABC's "Cupid" Saturday night (10 p.m.) and has also guested on "The Drew Carey Show" and "The Nanny." Loeb, 30, tells EW Online that her thespian turn isn't some trendy new infatuation. "I used to do a lot of acting when I was growing up," she says. "But in college, it turned out that I was spending a lot more time playing music than acting -- and that's just where my career took me."
With two albums to her credit, Loeb is now busy attending readings, casting calls, and other rites of passage for young actors. Not surprisingly, she says that her career as a singer is helping her land Hollywood jobs. "I try not to do roles that are so much like my own life," Loeb explains. "But being a musician has definitely opened more doors. I've heard casting directors familiar with my music say to my agent, 'Oh, wow. She can act'" As for her next onscreen gig: "You'll have to ask all those casting directors. I've been to a lot of auditions lately."
