Oprah may be powerful, but Lukas Haas cares about more than her name

Knowing that Oprah Winfrey is producing a project might be enough to get some actors aboard. But Lukas Haas signed for his role as a troubled teen in "Oprah Winfrey Presents: David and Lisa" (ABC, Sunday at 9 p.m.) primarily because of the character he plays, not the famous name in the title. That's a change from the past, when he chose smaller roles in Woody Allen's "Everybody Says I Love You" and Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks." "I definitely did those movies for the directors," Haas, 22, tells EW Online. Although he had fun making the films, "neither of them were really much of a challenge for me. I didn't come off feeling like I'd really accomplished something. That's what I'm looking for now."

Haas, whose breakout role as the Amish boy in "Witness" came at age 8, has been making movies too long to be easily impressed by actors and directors' names, anyway. But famous folks in the music biz are a different matter. Haas recently joined Vincent Gallo's band, Bunny, and will be releasing an album next year. "There's no one in the world I would rather meet or do a project with than Paul McCartney," says Haas, a rabid Beatles fan. "There's nobody in the movie business that I could be as excited about."
