Isn't it ironic that a singer whose chart-climbing single "Thank U" begins with the decidedly unpop lyric "How 'bout getting off of these antibiotics" has sold more albums in one week than any female in pop-music history? (Okay, so it's not ironic -- let's move on.) Maverick Records unloaded 469,000 copies of Alanis Morissette's "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie" in its debut week (according to SoundScan). That breaks the women's record of 422,000 held by Lauryn Hill. Even so, "Junkie" fell far short of the all-time tally of more than 960,000 posted by Pearl Jam for "Vs." in 1993. Next up in the quest to topple Eddie Vedder and Co: Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Jewel, who all release discs next Tuesday. No sweat -- Friday is payday.
